Dear SOM,
I was playing the computer version of your fine football game this morning and was looking for a stategy called "these are my dudes" when trying to choose an offensive play. I could not find this anywhere in the drop down boxes. How could this be? I have been told by your newest game analyst that this should not be an issue when attempting to play the game and the defensive coach should not be able to recognize when the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez or Rex Burkhead are on the field. The reasoning behind this is because they stand as a group of 11 in a little circle called a "huddle" where they are supposedly invisible to the defense team.
After much thought, I said to myself "no worries" I want to account for Gronkowski as I perceive him to be the biggest threat, thus i'm going to assign Jalen Ramsey to cover him. When i try to do this my computer nearly crashes as I'm limited to who can cover the great one because he was invisible in the huddle and nobody could see where he was going to line up. How could this be? Why can't my game seem to get this right?
SOM reply-You are playing the wrong game. What you are looking for is Pat-O-Matic which is available for $49.95 at all Toys 'R Us, K-Mart and Circuit City retail stores.
My reply to SOM- How come you're game is not accounting for things such as how the great Bill Belicheck accounts for the offenses best weapon week after week when he doesn't know where they will be lining up when breaking the "huddle"? What happens if that player decides to go in motion? What if he shifts after lining up wide and then moves into the backfield. Wait he's gonna be on the left, the right, in tight and now back wide right...Brady yell's check, check, Omaha and Gronk runs to the sideline pretending to tie his shoe, but instead flexes for the cheerleaders. What do you mean I can't cover him with Aqib Talib? I just want Talib to follow him wherever he goes whether it's wide right, the strip club or Golden Choral. His one job is to follow Gronkopotomas everwhere-What do you mean Patrick Peterson cannot do this because Gronk can be anywhere at anytime and you the lowly CB cannot possibly account for this. What do you mean I can't drop Deacon Jones into the flat as part of my zone blitz scheme to disguise what the offense see's when i'm in the huddle (also not found in the defensive drop down box)
SOM reply-We have been in business for 51 years and we believe what we do works very well. You may be playing the wrong game. What you are looking for is Pat-O-Matic which is available for $49.95 at all Toys 'R Us, K-Mart and Circuit City retail stores. They also told me that I was possibly confused and was really looking to coach a youth or high school football team or play in a mens 50 and over football league?
Get it? Oh yeah, one last question? If my tight end goes in motion on the left (because I hid him and split him out wide so the defense would not know he's there) and then run off tackle right, does my right offesnive tackle now become a better blocker?
Stop rewriting the game. It's a board game (the best football one out there by the way) and not designed to account for every possible scenario that may occur in a live football game.
Sincerely,
Tyreek Hill, Dude and James White, Dude.
