I want to start off saying that thsi is not designed to be a reflection on Chris or Rich. Their particular trade has just brought my upcoming commentary to the front of my brain again.
I think its time for the league to abolish needing to have any trades approved whether an owner objects or not. Past, present and future owners all have their own ways of evaluating players and what direction they want to take their team. Like the real sports world, eveybody has an opinion about trades as to whether they're good, bad, fair, unfair. None of these opinions matter. The only opinion that should matter is those of the people making the trade short of some type of obvious collusion occurring. Every owner wants to feel like they've won out in a trade and i'm pretty certain nobody would be deliberately be allowing themselves to be fleeced in a trade.
Therefore the time has come to let owners handle their personel the way they want, regardless of what anybody else thinks. Even when there have been objections, i've never seen a trade in our league overturned, so it's all really just a moot point.
Consider this an official proposal to be voted upon to take effect immediatley.
Now, who wants to make a bad trade, lol.

I think we need to create a "Standard of Review" for trades. Objecting just because you would have paid more isn't enough. It leads to bitter posts and ultimately makes the game less fun. I think NFLed is inciteful. In responding to the request for guidance on the Gillislee/Burkhead trade he discussed "Rip-Off" trades. He wrote:
“Ripoff trades could occur for many reasons, including a coach giving his friend a giveaway deal, a coach not taking the league seriously at all, a coach about to leave the league next season and trading away all his good future in a ripoff trade, a coach not understanding player values (possibly a new coach), or many other reasons which do not necessarily include anyone doing anything wrong. What constitutes a ripoff trade is, of course, very subjective which is why our leagues have a committee so that one person's subjectivity (or potential bias) does not overly cloud the discussion and vote.”
I know that some people will say that Gillislee/Burkhead is a "Rip-off" simply because they don't want him on the Jets. However, when the majority of our league approves, and people in other 24 team keeper leagues say Yes, I think it is not a "Rip-Off."
So I agree with the spirit of Brian's proposal; but perhaps an objection should be more like: "This is a "Rip-Off" because of X,Y, and Z." I also think having trades subject to league approval has a prophylactic effect in that it will necessarily limit "Rip-Off" trades. The few times "Rip-Off" trades are "overruled" in other leagues likely happens because the players are all "online" and rarely know each other. It is a lot easier to "Rip-Off" someone when you don't have to look people in the eye.
I think special attention should be given to: New Guys/Family Relationships (Brian/Ryan; John/Chris; Me/Brian).

Rich,
I may be crazy, but I don't have much concern about you and Brian agreeing to a "Rip-Off" trade together.
