As Brian has stated, there is a leadership vacuum in our league. The democratic setup the league has relied upon for decades is struggling to move the league forward. Not all owners have the time and/or interest to discuss/debate the issues that will need to be discussed as we go forward. Having too many owners involved in the process can also lead to frustration and inaction on important topics.
I would propose we form an executive committee of 3 or 5 owners that will be tasked with coming up with the proposals that would then be presented to the rest of the league (for a vote if necessary). This committee of 3 or 5 owners would/should be made up of a good mix of people from the league. Having 3 or 5 people who see things the same way would not be my idea of a good executive committee.
Let me know what you think of this idea. The time is right for this type of committee.

I really like this idea and think it will help.
I agree that some people just don’t have the time or care enough to learn and discuss ideas to help keep the league current and positively progressing. There is nothing wrong with this, but we definitely have a handful of very committed and strato-informed members which would be good for this.
Also, having a committee would help cut out some needless banter that bogs down threads when something is trying to gain momentum or votes.
I would think that having an odd number of committee members would be best so that majority vote by committee members would be required before presenting something to the league for a full vote? This is just an idea off of the top of my head.
Props to Mark for the idea, I’m all about it.

I'm not going to be part of a league with a ruling body.

I don't interpret this as a "ruling body." I envision a group hammering out proposals to be put out for league approval. The difference from now -- someone sets out a proposal and people begin voting without considering all the possibilities. The duty of this type of committee will be to consider all the options and set forth comprehensive plans from the outset. I have always advocated for new rules to be proposed and voted on at the same time every year (rather than after you lose a game because of something). I believe, that we have done our "best work" when we have had comprehensive rules summits. All this "committee" becomes is a few doing the "heavy lifting," put it out for a vote, get feedback, and revise as necessary. Not a ruling body.

I would propose the following 3-man or 5-man committees (one or the other):
3-Man--Brian, John and Rich; OR
5-Man--Brian, John, Rich, Pete and me

I would nominate Pat in place of me on the 5 name committee. Not that this decides anything, we all shall realize it's just an example for discussion. I only an taking my name out in place of Pat. Carry on.

I was just looking to have a good mix of people with different ideas. I still think Pete would be a good choice, but Pat is equally fine as would Ryan, but I think we would have to limit the group to one person per family.

Well John isn't going to be apart of a league with a ruling body, so I'm confused why this discussion matters. If we have a ruling body, we are yet another 2 teams down. My life got busy at the worst possible moment with this league and I cannot help but wonder what the point is? John is apparently uphappy with a governing body, Pick is god knows what with PC going forward, the Vikings are dead... anyone have another 4 teams up their ass? Why should I give a shit? The "old guard" sat around with their thumbs *somewhere* for nearly 2 months before anything was even discussed. Someone convince me that Brian H. wasn't the smartest of all of us.

Anthony-This is pretty typical of the original guard. They’ve been resistant to changes forever. It’s too bad because every change that the newer guard has been able to put into place has improved the league.
Mark’s idea was thrown out there with the idea of bringing a semblance of structure/sanity back in place because too many owners have been able to just do whatever they feel like on any given day. Peter K is a perfect example of that.
The good news is these actions will get corrected one way or another. I assure you of that. There’s a silent majority out there who are growing weary of it all and OFM governing body or not, the insanity is going to stop.
