In my opinion the power of mobile/pistol QBs and the flat run rule coupled with the current receiver double team rules create a very un NFL like matchup when a strong run flat team meets up with a passing oriented team. Since I/we have one of each I have experienced it from both sides. I propose a conversation to begin about receiver double teams being announced by the defense prior to the offense choosing a play. In that case the offense will always have an opportunity to direct a pass to a non doubled teamed player (albeit probably one with a lower completion percentage) just like the NFL. The defense can choose to un-double team a player after the offensive player has declared readiness, it can move the double teaming player to a zone, and change to a run call if they like ... I hope my intentions for better playability make sense. Please share refinements. Thanks, Peter

In the NFL there is no consistent way to identify whether or not a receiver is double teamed prior to the snap. In 95% of cases, the 2nd defender moves to the zone or area of the receiver as the play develops.

You know that a zone or man to man scheme is on, you know the personnel and you can motion to expose coverage ... I strongly disagree, in the NFL, as in college and high school there are many ways to recognize aspects of the defense pre snap

I don't get this at all. The offensive presnap read is ... oh, the team is in a nickel, I have to worry about a double team or passing attention to the defensive play calling.
This idea is bad for defenses in my view. If you know who will be DT or even that there will be a DT, you know the defense is opening a spot on the field. Now they're announcing this open zone (or reduced SP zone and you'll know who not to throw to or there's a lower likelihood of getting keyed.
DT'ing as we do gives the defense a chance at stopping some of the more powerful QB cards.
Just my 2cents on the topic

The ability to read defenses and attack weaknesses is already in the cards. Good QBs do it better.

This comes from the strat mentality when we joined the league. All offenses should be granted the ability to make a decision that would not allow the defense to make a big play. In other words, a variant of the old timeout rule without actually having to use a timeout.

Yes. Agreed. Good idea.
