While it may be slightly early, some ideas I'd like to add to the rules agenda this post season.
1) Elimination of the holding in the end zone chart. This is an OFM developed chart and while I voted to approve its use, it's so rarely come into play and only applies on pass plays near your own end zone, I think it should be eliminated. It's kind of just clutter so why continue to have it.
2) Change the #11 roll on the interception return chart to Fumble, +22. This is consistent with the computer game chart. I'm OK with leaving the #10 roll of long gain as an OFM adjustment.
3) Eliminate the Fair Catch chart. This is primarily used as a safety net to avoid fumbles. I believe fair catches are already built into the returners cards and with the added ability to allow a punt to bounce anywhere on the field, this is really unecessary. You actually have a highing percentage of fumbling a punt on the OFM developed fair catch chart than you do with the let it roll chart, so it's really a safer option.
4) Eliminate the scramble chart. It's a randomly developed OFM chart that if achieved a majority of the time leads to adverse results. The league probably doesn't have enough sacks to begin with and this just gives somebody a random chance to avoid a sack, sometimes with results that can't even be applied (Must Run).
5) Consideration of adding the dump off rule. If you really want/need an option to avoid potential sacks this may be a viable option as is part of the actual SOM game.
6) Adjustment to the current injury system using the following; Any time there is a 3 or 4 die roll, it results in an injury. We've cleaned up the calculation of injuries for ease of use, but our game still does not have anywhere near the amount of injuries a real NFL team incurs on a weekly/seasons basis. I don't this is going to create an aditional rash of injuries, but it will add a few more which makes the depth of your roster more imporatnt. I'm open to discussion on this, but thought this was a clever idea without getting too complicated.
7) Permanent generic cards. Develop them once and be done with it. The changes season to season are so innoquous why mess with it each year. One and done!
Comment or discuss as you see fit.
