Thanks to Joanne and John for hosting. For those of you not in attendance here is my quick recap:
Kicking is still a part of football. The Jets scored first on a TD when Aaron Rodgers found Gronkowski from 6 yards out. The Bucs countered quickly when Dez Bryant took a look in pass (2 men in zone) 60 yards for a score on a YAC roll. However, a penalty on the EP forced a re-kick that the Bucs missed.
In the second quarter Shane Vereen scored on a 3 yard TD run to make it 14-6. The Bucs missed a FG and kicked a FG in the second quarter. With the score 14-9, on 4th and 1 at the Bucs 25, the Jets passed up a 42 yard FG attempt at the end of the 2d quarter opting for a Chris Polk linebuck (0 men in zone) but turned the ball over on downs.
In the 3rd quarter the teams exchanged punts and turnovers. The Bucs missed another chipshot FG.
In the 4th quarter, the Jets added a FG go up 17-9. The Bucs scored a TD and a 2 pt conversion with two minutes remaining to make the score 17-17. On the ensuing Jets possession, TY Hilton dropped a Long Pass and time expired.
In OT, the Bucs won the toss and elected to receive; the Jets chose the wind. After getting a first down, the Bucs were forced to punt. Midseason acquisition, Solomon Patton returned the punt 10 yards to put the Jets in good field position. Aaron Rodgers completed passes of 13 and 12 yards to TY Hilton. He then found Gronk for completions of 9 and 1 yard(s), respectively. The Jets had 1st and 10 at the Bucs 36 and sent Vereen offtackle but the Bucs defense forced him to lose 2 yards. Rodgers then found Vereen on a look in pass for 5 yards to the Bucs 33. On third down, tather than risk losing a yard, the Jets sent out rookie kicker Chandler Cartanzaro to attempt a 50 yard GW FG. The wind was at his back – 2-9.12 rather than 2-5 – and the FG sailed through the uprights. Jets win their second Super Bowl!
The penalties were greatly in my favor. The kicking gods shone down upon me. Congrats to Rich L on a great career. If there is an OFM Hall of Fame, he should be installed (after 5 years, of course).
See you in Naperville next year!
Thanks again to John and Joanne for hosting ... "Love that chicken from Popeye's!"

It was a classic game and the first Super Bowl ever to go into Overtime. Thanks for a good game Rich! Congrats on the win!
Penalties ended up being 9-3 in the Jets favor (for a whopping total of 10 yards in penalties against the Jets as the 3rd and final penalty against the Jets was a zero yard penalty because it was a personal foul at the Jets 1 yard line).
Special Teams played a huge roll as Greg (no longer known as "The Leg", now known as "Dead to Me") Zuerlein missed not one, not two, but THREE kicks from inside the 22 yard line.
Amazingly a paltry 2 yard wind played a huge roll in the game as well as it allowed the Jets to kick the game winning kick from the Bucs 33 yard line AND it prevented the Bucs from returning two kickoffs (which became touchbacks instead) with the best set of kick returners in the league against very suspect Jets kick coverage. Proving once again that #Wind Does Matter ....
Time to ride off into the sunset. Unless, the sun rises again someday.
