I'm not a fan of using other years cards. For one, everybody would have to own the year(s) of the "generic" cards we choose. I know people will say that everybody owns last years cards, which may be true but going forward if a new player were to join he would be forced to buy a different year then the one we are playing. Also for a standpoint of having to create the computer rosters every year, adding a different season would double the amount of players listed and increase the chance of making a mistake while creating the rosters (i.e. 2020 vs 2019 Lamar Jackson)

So in other words, if you don't have at least 1 appropriate backup for each position and a K, PR and the appropriate KR's and PR's per our current rules, start showering the trade bait market. Plenty of cheap talent to meet the minimum required.

Pat, which positions require backups?

All positions need at least one backup with the exception of K, P, KR, PR as they cannot be injured in the PC game.
As far as I know the Bills need a P. The Seahawks need at least one KR, The Colts need a backup QB. I believe the Colts may need one or two KR. These are just what I know about off the cuff as I don't track everybody else's roster. You can't just assign a "generic" as you cannot duplicate the same player onto a roster. I believe between my two teams I have at least 3 players who would be considered generic and at least 1 may make a roster.
Personally I think this is much adieu about nothing. GM's should have to draft or trade to have a valid roster. If you don't and a random player must be assigned due to a shortage, you lose a roster spot. There's plenty out there to fill the roster voids at all positions with your typical 7th-9th round draft choices. I don't think you have to worry about hoarding. If somebody sticks around and drafts an extra K, P, Pr etc in the 12th round that leaves somebody short, that's on the other GM for not paying attention.
In the words of Rich H, when he makes a trade, He "likes To Feel Like I Won The Trade". There's nothing wrong with that. If somebody garners an 8th round draft choice for the future for somebody they drafted in the 11th round of the current years draft, my answer is so what. As long as the league feels nobody is being unfairly fleeced due to lack of SOM knowledge, then let it go. We're not talking about somebody having to pay a 1st for a random punter no longer in the league.
1) Draft a valid roster 2) If you do not have a valid roster after the draft, trade to validate your roster. 3) If you cannot validate your roster due to a shortage, you lose a roster spot for each shortage 4) If #3 occurs, the the worst available player at the position is assigned to your roster for the balance of that season. 5) If more than one person is short at the same position that requires a player to be assigned to each team, Pat chooses who he believes is the next worst available player and assigns randomly to each team. The ratings guide can also be used in this situation for reference.
Pretty simple eh'
Ameer Abdullah (KR) is now available for 3 firsts (Kidding!)

FYI — I think that trade quote iattribution belongs to Rich L. My trade philosophy is simple— to build my championship roster I will “overpay”; to help your championship roster you must “overpay”; and I have even swaps my 4/4 OG for your 4/4 OT

3-5 is the status quo. Has anyone asked Pat if he wants to be responsible for this? I still think owners should be responsible for putting together a valid roster and not rely on Pat to be their safety net come roster due dates… asking everyone to field a valid roster is not a high bar. A 2022 rule would even be fine so people can “prepare” vs an 8 day window.

I think some clarification before the rosters are due Sunday September 12th would be useful.
How many active ( not NC ) players are necessary for each position?
Are 5 WR required for a 4 WR offense? 3 OG ok? Are backups required for players without cards? What about FB/BB ?

You only need 4 WR I believe but if you sustain an injury one of your WR's will not be able to catch the ball. 5 minimum is the safety play. 3 OG are ok. Since were using loose substitution rule you do n to need a FB or BB.
